Front of the Package Labeling Work

Barry Popkin is involved in a number of efforts to create simple front of the package labeling systems across the globe.  A global push exists to reduce the amount of saturated and trans fatty acids, added salt and sugar in processed food, and to enhance fruit, vegetable and whole grain intake, while limiting energy intake.  Barry Popkin is a senior member of one independent group that has created this criteria for a number of countries.  In addition he Chairs for the Minister of Health in Mexico, the scientific panel to establish a simple front of the package labeling system for Mexico. This system has been approved by the President and key cabinet members in Mexico and implementation is being finalized.
